337. The normal order of words in a senternce is as follows :-
  1. Intransitive Verbs


  2. (i) Subject Verb

  3. Transitive Verbs-

    (ii) Subject Object Predicative word Verb referring to the Object

  5. Transitive Verbs with two objects

  1. Adjectives are placed immediately before the Noun which they qualify (except, of course, when they are used as Predicative words) :
  2. ܽ ܡ; ܽ ܺÁ ܾţ ܽ  ܡ ڇ But ܽۛ ۺ ܺ ۾

  3. Nouns having and Pronouns having - are adjectival and are placed immediately befoer the related Noun, or before its Adjective, if there is one:
  4. ܟ ܽ ܃ ܡ : ܾܽ ܺܣ (܃) ܝ ܁ But ܝ ܟ ۾ (Predicative).

  5. Adverbs are usually placed before the Verb:
  6. ܟ ۾,

    ܏ ڣ ܽ

  7. Nouns having ܽ and denoting means, instrument etc., or separation precede the object.
  8. ܈ ܽ ť ܒܽ,

    ܏ܣ ܽ ť ܡ

  9. Nouns having ܽ or ܣ are usually placed before the Verb (or before a predicative word, if any):
  10. ܽ ܣ ۣ ܽ ۾,

    ܝ ܽ ܣ ۾,

    ܣ ܥ ܽ ܾܣ ۺ.

  11. , and are generally placed immediately before the Verb :
  12. ܟ ţ,

    ܜ ܃,

    ōܽ ť ܂ܽ.

    But sometimes otherwise as well : ܽ ; ܟ ܽ ţ .

  13. The particles , ܽ, etc. are placed after the word which they emphasize:
ť ܡ ۻ `I have come only yesterday',
ܺ ܽ ܘ ܥܽ `you also come with me',
ܺ ܽ ܘ ܥܽ `do come with me'.
  1. A word shifted from its normal position qcquires emphasis :
ܜ ܃ `please don't go there',
ܜ ܃ `please don't go there',
ܟ ۾ `Ram lives here',
ܟ ۾ `here lives Ram',
܈ ܽ ť ܒܽ `cut the fruit with the knife',
or `cut the fruit with the knife',
ܝ ܽ ܣ ۾ `the book is on he table',
ܽ ܣ ܝ ۾ `on the table, there is a book',
  1. The interrogative ơ is usually placed at the beginning of the sentence.
ơ ܟ ܏ܣ ܡ ۾? `has Ram gone to the market',
ơ ܜ ܺ܈ ܁ ܽ ۾? `do you want to read this book?'

Rhetorically, or for the sake of emphasis, ơ may be placed immediately after the subject or at the end of the sentence :

ܟ ơ ܏ܣ ܡ ۾ ? `has Ram gone to the market ?'
ܟ ܏ܣ ܡ ۾ ơ ? `has Ram gone to the market?'
ܜ ܺ܈ ܁ ܽ ơ? `do you want to read this book?'
