113. Hindi Pronouns
attach the same case-signs as the Nouns, namely, ܽ, ܽ,
ܽ, ܽ, ܣ and . But the oblique itself, in some cases,
is formed differently from the Noun.
114. The oblique
forms of the various Pronouns are made as follows:
- In the singular,
, , ܽ and ܽ change respectively to , ,
ܬ and ܬ while ܾ and ơ change to Ŭ
and ܽ and Ŏ to Ŭ before all the case-signs:
܈ܽ, ܟܽ, ܬܛܽ, Ŭ ܣ, Ŭ ܽ.
- In the Plural,
except before ܽ, these change to , , ܛ, ܛ,
ś and ś :܈, ܬܽ, ܛܟܽ, ś ܽ.
- Before ܽ,
the Plural oblique forms are ܽ, ܽ, ܛܽ,
śܽ and ś: ܽܽ, ܽܽ, śܽܽ,
śܽ.
- and ܻ
remain unchanged before ܽ : ܽ, ܻܽ.
- Followed
by the rest of the case-signs, and ܻ change to ܺ
and ܺ : ܺ܈ܽ, ܺܬܽ.
- ۟ and ܺ
remain unchanged before all case-signs: ۟ܛܽ ,۟ܬܽ,
۟܈ܽ, ܺ܈ܽ, ܺܟܽ.
- , ܻ
۟ and ܺ do not attach . Instead, they change
into ܽ, ܽ, ۟ܣ and ܺܣ. These latter forms
have all the significations of and modify to ܽ,
ܽ, ۟ܣ, ܺܣ and ܽ, ܽ, ۟ܣ, ܺܣ.
- When used
as an Adjective [111 (ii)], Ŏ remains unchanged (136).
- An an alternative
to ܽ, all the oblique forms attach in Singular and
۽ in Plural : ܽ (= ܈ܽ), ۽ (= ܈ܽ), ܽ,
۽, ܺܽ, ܺ۽, ۟, however, makes ۟ܽ and
not ۟۽ (See 316).
Note : The
indefinite Pronouns ܽ and Ŏ do not attach or
۽.
- The Personal
Pronoun ܜ attaches all case-signs without any change
ܜܛܽ, ܜ܈ܽ, ܜܟܽ.
Note: The
Personal Pronoun ܜ is always Plural (honorific).
- The Reflexive
ܜ as already stated [109 (b).] change to ܛܽ before
ܽ, ܽ, ܽ and ܣ: ܛܽ ܽ, ܛܽ ܽ etc.
- ܽ is not
attached to the reflexive ܜ, but only the subject (Noun
or Pronoun) to which ܜ refers. In such cases, ܜ
itself remains unchanged.
ܟ ܽ
ܜ () ܟ š Ram himself did this
work'
ܛܽ
ܜ ܺܽ ܺܡ `he himself sent for me'.
For denoting
the various senses of , ܜ changes to ܛ, ܛ,
ܛܽ [109 (d)]
The Plural
forms are the same as those of the Singular.
ܛܽ-ܜ
remains unchanged.
